OneTrip, One Bike, One Man

Day One:

On August 3rd I set out on my adventure. Not knowing the exact direction I was going to take, but I knew I was going to arrive in Springfield Missouri in 5 or 6 days. The weather was B E A U T I F U L it was about 9:30 am. I had worked on the bike getting everything just perfect. Got my 16,000 mile service, had a new pair of tires, every pair of gloves I thought I was going to need, and that would be 4, you figure it out. Bike washed, cleaner spray, my favorite micro fiber rags, extra qt of oil, first aid kit, which I did have to use, but that will be on day two. I had my tool kit, my chaps, jacket, rain gear, Yes I used them on day 5, more on it later too. I worked on my trailer also. I had my home away from home my trusty Kwick Kamp ready. New tires, lubed wheel bearings, lights all working, my cooler loaded.. I WAS READY! And off to bed I went at 1:30 am I was so excited didn't get to sleep till 2:00 o'clock am. 6:00 o'clock came and went, 7:00 o'clock came and went, then 8, then 9, and at 9:00 o'clock I SPRANG UP TO SEE WHAT WAS THE MATTER, oops wrong story, back to day one. I did get up and all I could think about was to get on the road. Had to find my keys, had to get my favorite hat's, my maps WHERE WERE MY MAPS, and then I realised, I HAD NO CIGARS, the trip almost got canceled, but my favorite smoke shop was opened and he saved me. Whew, that was close, but we were finally underway. Bullwinkle, my nick name given to me by the club because of my wife, later story, a chapter member of Chapter S Skagit Valley Wings, escorted me out of town, and actually a little over a hundred miles, what a guy, what a guy. Actually I think he almost said the Hell with it and went with me, but one of us had to be reasonable and it was him. We made it as far as Everett Wa, and by then it was noon. Time to eat, so in the process I picked up another chapter member (my son Adam) and off to brunch we went.

Now with a full tummy, the three of us were off. Adam escorted us to the edge of town and he peeled off, then Brad and I were on our own, scary huh. I made my first decision, I was going to go I-90 out and over the hump (snoqualmie mountains) then I didn't have to decide till Ellensburg, on either I-90 or I-82 to I-84 down to Idaho. Vacation "I'm not the boss of me" wait that makes no sense, back to the day one story. The temperature was perfect, the traffic was perfect, the speed over the hump was perfect, the day was, you guessed it "PERFECT". The chapter member peeled off at Cle Elum, and we said our good by's, over the CB of course, and I was off "TO INFINITY AND BEYOND" I was on my own, me and the road, mono-e-mono, easy rider, the wild one, wild hogs, OK you get the picture, Dads been turn loose on the world. My first day took me to Spokane Wa. I spent the evening with my girl friend, My granddaughter KK, Had you going didn't I (tee hee) That completed day one and I was off to bed to dream about the open road.
